Mometrix ($59.99 a month) works for a short sprint, and the official NMLS content outline is free and worth reading no matter what you buy. One thing to know up front: none of these test prep tools replaces the required 20-hour NMLS pre-licensing course.

24hourEDU lists 1,000 practice questions in eight 125-question sections, a 30-page study guide, a 600-page ebook, and the video content from its 20-hour course. Access length and other features aren't listed.

Many free SAFE and NMLS flashcard sets exist, but other users write them and nobody reviews them, so the accuracy and how up to date they are vary from set to set. Check anything that surprises you against the NMLS outline or a vetted course.

When MLO Pass is not the right fit
MLO Pass is SAFE MLO test prep. It isn't an NMLS-approved education provider. Pick something else, or something in addition, if any of these apply:
- ×You still need the 20-hour pre-licensing (PE) course. NMLS requires at least 20 hours of approved pre-licensure education for licensure. MLO Pass doesn't provide it or report hours to NMLS. You'll need an approved provider such as OnCourse Learning, Mortgage Educators, or The CE Shop, and their bundles often include test prep.
- ×You need state-specific PE electives. Some states require extra pre-licensing hours on top of the 20. Those also come from approved providers.
- ×You want a pass guarantee or refund. MLO Pass doesn't offer one. Mortgage Educators' Ultimate Test Prep has a conditional refund of up to $110.
- ×You learn best from long video lectures or a live instructor. MLO Pass is built around questions, mock exams, AI explanations, and games. MEC's videos or OnCourse's live exam prep webinars may suit you better.
- ×You only want the official outline. If you'd rather study straight from the NMLS content outline and your PE course materials, that costs nothing.
