MLO Pass vs. OnCourse Learning Prep xL (2026)
MLO Pass is $99 once with no subscription. OnCourse Learning's Prep xL is $199 for 365 days of access. Both give you timed practice exams, an AI study helper (MLO Pass's AI Trainer, OnCourse's Rubi), and study games. Prep xL is the better pick if you want the bigger bank (1,800+ questions, 11 simulated exams, 800+ flashcards) or you're buying an OnCourse Premier 20-hour package, which already includes it. Price and access
MLO Pass is $99 once and nothing renews. Prep xL is $199 and lasts 365 days from purchase, which is plenty for most candidates. OnCourse also points out that if you fail, your Prep xL access still runs for the rest of the year, so you can keep studying through the retake wait.
Question volume
Prep xL is bigger on paper: OnCourse lists 1,800+ questions, 11 simulated exams, and 800+ flashcards. MLO Pass lists 1,154 practice questions across the five content areas plus full-length mock exams. If raw volume matters most to you, OnCourse wins this one.
How the practice exams are built
MLO Pass mocks are 115 questions in 190 minutes, weighted to the five areas of the NMLS content outline (Origination Activities 27%, Federal Laws 24%, General Knowledge 20%, Ethics 18%, Uniform State Content 11%). OnCourse describes its Tests section as a timed exam that closely simulates the real test, with explanations for every answer.
AI help and games
This is closer than most comparisons. Both have an AI study helper (MLO Pass's AI Trainer and OnCourse's Rubi) and both have games. MLO Pass's three games (Buzzer Beater, Boss Battle, Grand Prix) feed you questions from your weak areas, and you can try the Shot Clock Showdown free on the homepage.
Live help and bundles
OnCourse sells live exam prep webinars ($149 for 8 hours, $129 for 4 hours) and is an NMLS-approved provider of the 20-hour course. Its Premier packages include Prep xL, so you don't buy it twice. MLO Pass has no live instruction and doesn't sell the 20-hour course.
